WHAT HAPPENS DURING A CONSULTATION?
The consultation aims at exploring your health condition so the right diagnosis can be made. This will obviously enhance the effect of the treatment.
Initial consultation takes approximately 1 hour.
Follow up acupuncture treatments take 45 minutes.
I start the consultation by taking a detailed case history, asking about present and past health problems, family history, lifestyle, and general health. This helps me to diagnose correctly.
I examine your tongue and your wrist pulse and tongue are also made. This gives me further inclination as to the energetic balance in your body.
According to the diagnosis very fine needles are inserted into the acupuncture points. I use disposable stainless steel needles.
Most people report a dull sensation which can be local or 'travel' along the body.
The needles are usually left in place for about twenty minutes.
With your permission I may also use acupressure, electro-acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, cupping, and ear acupuncture.
After the treatment most people report a relaxed feeling of well being.
It is recommended to 'take it easy' after the treatment. Rest and go early to bed, if possible.
The symptoms may alleviate immediately after the treatment, after night rest, a few days or after a few treatment sessions. Symptoms may change in character or location.
Sometimes change of life style (such as diet for example) can help.
Sometimes a Chinese herbal prescription (usually in the form of tea) is added to the treatment regimen.
* Traditional Chinese Medicine has its origin in ancient Taoist philosophy which views a person as an energy system in which body and mind are unified, each influencing and balancing the other. Unlike allopathic medicine which attempts to isolate and separate a disease from a person, Chinese Medicine emphasises a holistic approach that treats the whole person. Many people have found Traditional Chinese methods of healing to be excellent tools for maintaining optimum health and preventing illness (please see also under 'about acupuncture').
